How to use the Hop Kuin Do freestyle martial arts syllabus book:
Attention Instructors:
Go by the book as much as possible however please feel free to add whatever techniques you feel you would like onto your own club syllabus, take out what you do not use or teach as this is only a guideline. Self-defence techniques may be learnt on HQ courses or you are allowed to add your own if you wish.
Hand Techniques
jab - backfist - left cross - reverse punch - uppercut - hook - ridgehand
chop - hammer - elbow
Kicking Techniques
front kick - side kick - roundhouse kick - flick kick - stamp kick - sickle kick - inner axe kick - outer axe kick - front leg sweep - back leg sweep - inner crescent kick - outer crescent kick - heel kick - hook kick - back kick - knee
The above hand and kicking techniques may be asked to be executed as a single technique or any said sequence and may be performed with a shuffle, step, spin or a jump. Please remember not all of the above techniques are allowed in the ring, some are only intended for street defence.
Kickboxing Equipment
Always make sure you have the right equipment to train with properly, a lack of certain equipment may hinder your training programme.
Items needed for the serious kickboxer include:
sparring equipment: boxing gloves, semi-contact gloves, boots, shins, mouthguard, headguard, groin guard, females need a chestguard.
Training Equipment:
skipping rope, hand bandages, bag gloves, focus pads, bodyshield, punchbag, handweights.
By not acquiring the above items sparring could be unsafe and you are only hindering your own training, see your instructor for a pricelist or for discount equipment.
